Robert Meyer, Keeper of the Anclote Lighthouse
Robert S. Meyer, Keeper of the Anclote Lighthouse.  This portrait of Robert S. Meyer was taken in 1890 while serving as Anclote Lighthouse Keeper.  Robert Meyer was born on Feb 4 1868 in the Anclote Community, possibly the first child born in Anclote, established by his father Franklin B. Meyers who settled the Community of Anclote in 1867.  Robert S. Meyer, served as assistant and principal keeper for 43 years, serving from October 1889 to February 1933.  Meyer served as an assistant keeper under Dr. James M. Baggett who was not only lighthouse keeper from October 1888 to July 1891 but was also the first certified dentist in Florida.  It was Dr. Baggett who trained Robert S. Meyer for his 43 years of service as the lighthouse keeper.  Robert S. Meyer died on January 31, 1945 and was buried in the Anclote Cemetery, established by his uncle and father and along side many other Anclote Lighthouse Keepers.
