| Weeki Wachee Springs. The Weeki Wachee Springs amusement park underwater theater was opened in 1947 and was constructed 8 feet under water in the limestone of the springs walls. This was the first underwater theater of Weeki Wachee Springs amusement park, the second theater was built in the 60's and was much larger. These three photos were taken on November 2, 1947, the same year that the Weeki Wachee Springs mermaid shows began. The young lady in the photo above is Ethel Mae Allen, wife of an employee.
