Ephraim E. Brown and his headstone.  Made from grey granite pulled from Ephraim's 300 acre Michigan farm in 1895, Brown made and carved his own headstone in the Englishville Cemetery.  The monument is 10 feet 7 inches tall with a base of 46 inch square and it is estimated it weighs 30,180 pounds.  The monument contains 15 skillfully engraved emblems.  When Ephraim decided to make his own monument he had no knowledge of stone carving or cutting.  He acquired his knowledge in stone carving with practice and from talking with locals in the trade.  (Photo and information courtesy of Pat Murphy)
